Just married!

Just married!

Some men regard marriage as the end of passion and settle down to being just comfortable. Perhaps traditional sentiments like “till death do us part” do seem to paint a bleak picture for the usually commitment phobic male.

The man tends to think of the wedded state as imprisonment while the woman regards it as a bond of heart and soul. Both are right in some ways. However, what makes commitment practical in every marriage is trust. With commitment, both parties can trust each other for the rest of their married lives, for both their physical and emotional wellbeing.

It takes trust to make things work, because without it, commitment is like an annoying itch which can soon develop into an open wound if you keep scratching at it. A marital union doesn’t necessarily have to be bleak if you consider what it was like before that piece of paper was signed. A life together.

Your Perfect Cut

April 10th, 2009

You probably familiar with the scene where you wake up, look in the mirror and sigh exasperatedly. The problem? Your hair. Despite doing so many things to it ( cutting, layering, perming, straightening, short, long and the list can go on and on..if you’d like to know). However, you can’t seem to find the cut that spells fabulous. Is going bald your only option? Be careful. That look might not even be one that will work for you!

So what’s a woman to do when it comes to finding that perfect hair cut? Does it even exist? You bet it does!

Just answer your questions below and before you know it, your marvellous new look is just a few snips away!

WHAT DOES YOUR HAIR TYPE SAY?

Your hair type can play a very crucial factor in how good your hairstyle will look. If you have thin hair that tends to fall limp, opt for a shorter cut, as it will create an illusion of volume. Coarse and curly hair works well with longer dos as it will help weigh the hair down, making it look less rough. Also, avoid fringes if your hair tends to frizz; a cut like that will only up the frizz level. Straight hair can look quite dull with a blunt cut so get your stylist to add in layers for extra body. Got damaged hair? Cut if off, as nothing looks good when your hair is damaged.

SHOULD YOU GO LONG?

Don’t go long if you are petite or else you will end up looking like a child. And if your face is long and narrow, avoid overemphasizing your face shape. But if your face shape is oval or square, then by all means go for it, as long hairstyles work best for you. Just remember the golden rule of long hair – don’t keep it below your breasts, unless of course you are planning a 60s revival.

OR GO SHORT?

Short dos can be very creative and in order to find what works for you best, consider your best features as well as your height. If you are very tall, avoid cropped cut because it will make you look too masculine and domineering. Got a round face? Go for a short cut that skims the jawline to minimize the roundness of your face. But avoid this if your jaw is pointy; the last thing you want is to call attention to it. A short cut that works for everyone? One with side-swept bangs for a chic yet feminine look. Also, remember this important rule for short dos – if you are not ready to show off your features and be spotted out from the crowd, don’t do it. Short dos require a lot of confidence to carry off and if you like hiding behind your hair, then forget the short look on your list of styles to try.

WILL THE SIZE OF MY FOREHEAD MATTER?

Like everything else, how big or small your forehead is will determine if a cut will suit you or not. Got a small forehead? Consider getting a fringe that starts further back on the head to give the illusion of a bigger forehead. Or try side-sweeping fringes to take the attention away from your forehead. If you have a big forehead, go for thick and blunt-cut fringes to cover up. You can also try side-sweeping fringes, as they are more flattering for you when they are longer at the temples than in the middle.

WILL IT SUIT ME?

Even if it is the latest hairstyle to try, it doesn’t mean it will work for you! How well you carry off a look largely depends on your personality and how much time you are planning to spend on your hair. You may come out of the hairdresser’s looking like a million dollars but if you can’t be bothered to spend that much time and devotion to your new style at home, don’t bother going for it. Before you decide to go for a new look, ask yourself a few questions – how much time you are willing to commit to styling every morning? Are you the wash and wear type or the blow-drying type just to make sure your hair stays in place? How much money are you planning to spend on keeping your style in shape? What sort of person are you – spunky and edgy or classy and elegant? The answer to these questions will help you decide on what hairstyles to go for.

IS THERE A CUT THAT SUITS EVERYONE?

According to Linda Wells, author of Confessions of A Beauty Editor, there is a cut that suits everyone. Her recommendation? Shoulder-length hair. Avery flattering cut, it looks great on anyone, no matter how tall or short, how round or narrow one’s face it. Just make sure you keep your hair healthy for your cut to look best!

One of the best ways to determine what works for you is to use your face shape as a guide. Here is a quick rundown.

Oval is the ideal shape. Hairdressers claim people with an oval face shape can wear most hair cut styles and length.

Round face shape is characterized by a round chin, go for styles that create volume on top while keeping it minimal at the sides and around the ears.

For a long face shape with a square chin and hairline, the ideal cut for you would be one that creates width at the sides. Try a fringe too, as it helps shorten the face. Chin-length bobs are also ideal as they create illusion of width.

People with square face shape need a haircut that plays down the strong jaw. Try short, spiky cuts or long sleek styles with layers that start at the jawline. Stay away from one-length bobs as this will make your face even more square.
